Merthyr Tydfil Transport Festival

9th September 2007

Ten cars met at the Crown Pontllanfraith at 9.30am. When it was time to leave the question was asked, who knows the way? Well it was none of us, but we knew the way to Merthyr so we headed there.

When we arrived and I told the marshal that there were ten of us he nearly had a fit as space was limited, but we started a new row and all managed to line up together. This was in the car park and not only vintage and classic cars were there - It was kind of mixed and so were our feelings. We set tables and chairs half in the road and half around a lamp post - there was no room to put up bunting or flag poles and as the car-park was tarmac there was nowhere to dig the poles in. Soon we were joined by another two cars - Keith and Kinsley - although they had to park at the top because where we were was full up.

The college was open and their canteen was excellent serving chips, large rolls and full dinners if needed. There were free bus rides to the Brecon Mountain Railway and the Rhymney Brewery. So we went to the brewery and when we got back all had ice-cream to take the taste way.

Some of our club had gone to Tyn Y Bryn Park, Tonyrefail and it was at this point when I wished I had gone with them. Some had gone to Beaulieu and I wished I was with them too - anywhere but Merthyr. The marshals however were very friendly and helpful, we left at 1600hrs for the journey home, arranging to meet at Tredegar House Classic Car Show next week.
