This is Geoff's Version. For Brian's version, Click here Three cars left Cwmfelinfach on Sunday 12th October at a minute's notice and a couple of phone calls. We headed for Pontypool and stopped in Tesco’s to buy bread for the fish. I must say in the crowded car park we had a few odd looks from the shoppers as we managed to park together, a Triumph two MGB GTs. It was a beautiful day - the sun was shinning and the girls never
took long with their retail therapy and we were off.
The drive was not without incident as I managed to take a wrong turn and the others followed me. When I did take the right turn we had to wait as Brian went past us and had to turn back, but we got there in the end and parked in the lower car park. We walked around the reservoir and the view was stunning. There were sailing boats, fishing boats and wind surfers. The water was
a hive of activity and we all watched as a fisherman caught a fish. Other fish were jumping and the children took great delight in pointing out where the fish jumped from. After our walk we headed back to the car park and the children went for ice cream.
Our next stop was the waterway at the Goyter wharf but as we pulled away we saw a big puddle of petrol on the floor. This was coming from my car and we discovered that I had a split rubber pipe leading to the petrol inline filter, so with Haydn’s pipe and Brian’s clips we were soon on our way.
When we arrived at the wharf the children took great delight in feeding the fish with the bread we brought at Tesco’s. The fish were massive and made a sucking noise as they took the bread and were not shy coming up to the surface. There was a small park there and benches, so as the children played in the park the girls sorted the picnic. After dinner we took a walk along the
canal looking at the sheep and cows or as Haydn pointed out, bulls. The afternoon went quick. Karen and Sue messed about with Haydn’s jeans, swapping belts to make sure his jeans never came down. All of this seemed very funny at the time and everybody had a great time.
Soon it was time to turn back and we stopped for yet another batch of ice cream, but this time it was for the adults. What strikes me as strange is all that beauty on our own doorstep and yet we rarely take advantage of it.
