Tony F. was the first to start, asking if we could delay our meet by ten minutes to give him a chance to put his hood up. Knowing Tony’s time keeping, I contacted Tony & Jane that we would now be meeting at 1050hrs. Shortly after a call from Tony F stated that he was running late and would meet us at the show. That said we went to the Crown and was soon joined by Tony & Jane in their
Renault Clio. A lovely little family hatchback, or so I thought, only to learn that this was a 2 seater with the back taken up with a v6 3ltr engine. Sylvia was most impressed with the “holes” in the sides.
We said our hello’s and set off in the rain to the show with me leading, (I hate leading). The journey was fine on our way with the sat nav behaving, as we entered Tonyrefail the sat nav decided to throw a wobbly and sent us around a roundabout twice, wrong turns and then telling us we had arrived at our destination. With no classic cars to follow in, we drove on passing the park field
looking for the industrial estate. The park was so nice I decided to go around and have another look at the park before finding a local. Having found one, we were pointed in the right direction and in the meantime Tony F had pulled in equally lost. The three of us set off again only for me to take another wrong turning going through a street riddled with humps. Tony/Jane must have been cursing me all the way as they had to take their time in fear of ripping off their spoiler.
At last we arrived at our destination with myself first being ushered into a small compound with more craters than the moon. Tony/Jane seeing this protested and was directed to a more level area. Tony F. was no where to be seen in the parking area but we soon met up with him at the entrance to the indoor auto jumble building parked up in the dry. I’ll just add that Tony F. drove all the
way with his hood down fearing a soaking to get it up.
The auto jumble consisted of twenty-some stalls and a few other stalls selling food stuffs and bric-a-brac. I was first to grab a bargain of an alloy and wood slat boot rack for a tenner. Tonf F. was next in line who picked up a full Midget tonneau cover for £30.00 (well he actually paid £10.00) for Lewi.
Wandering around the jumble we met up with Derek and Chris who were also looking for some bargains. The prices of some of the goods were very reasonable, with headlights from £5.00, dashboard gauges again from a fiver. If you knew what you were looking for you could have saved a small fortune. I also picked up a boot lid Triumph badge for £2.00, doubling the value of my Herald.
Towards the end of the day we all met up again for a coffee and to show off our bargains of the day. Tony, of Tony/Jane found a couple of books on fast cars and motor bikes for a pound and a great torch, which he blinded me with, by accident? The bargain of the day must go to Jane who found a great looking baseball cap to match her Jacket.
Best in show for the day must go to Tony F. with his MGB Roadster, mainly because his was the only classic on display. Sorry, I really thought there was a display of classics as well as the auto jumble. Never mind, we all had a day out with some of us picking up a few bargains.
Thanks go to Sylvia, Jane, the two Tony’s, Derek and Chris for making a pleasant day.
