Gwent Classic Car Show

4th July 2010

Having decided to hold our own show this year the planning stages were started by the Committee and members. It was going to be hard work to get the show up and running so late in the season but with great pride and determination the Show was set for 4th July. Letters and flyers were distributed around various events, with exhibitors and traders applying for our event.

The night before the show so a couple of members camping for the night, having made a start on the preparation of the field. With an early start on Sunday everything was in place to start welcoming our first exhibitors which were a few Jaguars. The cars slowly but surely started to arrive and were directed by Karen & Andy at the gate (who had a wager on who would sell the most programmes) to John in the centre of the field to their final parking positions.

The show was officially opened by Mayor David Evans at 1030hrs; also in attendance were our supporter Barclays Bank and our chosen charity representative of MND, Ann Roberts. The day proved a success with fine weather, a good turn out of classic vehicles, just short of 240 expected exhibitors and was well catered for by traders selling everything from sweets, hog roast, auto jumbles and many more. Beryl and Sylvie did a sterling job on the book, bric-a-brac and tombola stalls, as did all the marshals of the day.

Best in Show went to Lesley with his Capri, second was the Lotus Cortina and third went to an MG.

Thanks go to Barclays for supporting this event, the traders, sponsors, advertisers and tannoy & music supplied by www.bassline-entertainment.com who stood in for www.curtskaraoke.co.uk at the very last moment due to a technical problem.

The Gwent MGOC are proud to have been of assistance to our chosen charity, Motor Neuron Disease Association (MND) and know that the monies donated are going to a very worthy cause.
