GWENT MG OWNERS CLUB

Malvern

18th April 2010

Twelve classics met at the lay by on the A449 for 0830hrs and after a short chat headed off to Malvern picking up four more, a Metropolitan, MG Roadster, Escort RS 2000 and a Triumph Stag. Wayne took the lead, taking us through some lovely windy, twisted scenic roads. On arrival we set up camp with some making a dash to the toilets while others made a start scouring the auto jumble and looking at the cars on display. Late to arrive after all the work was done, again, was the C.A.R.L team, adding a further four MG Roadsters to our display. Two others cars joined our display, one a Morgan, the other an Escort covered in race stickers. Carl was told he was missed by his team at quiz night as they lost to the” Flaming Herald’s”. Tony F tried to save face by producing the questions from the quiz, to find that, if Carl had been there they would have won, missing just one question, “What year was the Gwent MGOC formed ?. Shame on you Carl.

There was definitely a “Lotus” theme this year as they seemed to over power the site. There was a good selection of vehicles through the ages and quite a large auto jumble which some of us took advantage of. They also had fire extinguishers on sale. Which numpty wanted one of them? No, I didn’t buy one as the service dates were old.

The weather was extremely kind to us, with one or two of ladies bringing out the sun cream. Tony RS took the opportunity to show off his Escort RS 2000 by joining the arena parade while the rest of us lounged in the sun.

Time soon came to pack up and head for home with eight of us going together. This was not to last as the leaders began to spread and three of us got caught on the lights. So with Francis leading we continued on our journey only to be taken on the wrong road and having to turn around. Don’t worry Francis it happens to the best of us.
