South Wales Steam & Vintage Rally
19th September 2010

There were six cars that met for the show at Romilly Park, Barry. Some met at Forge Lane, Newport and some met at Asda car park off Junction 32 on the M4. The weather did not look too good at the start of the journey but brightened up as the cars were travelling to the show.

On arrival you could see that the show was well laid out. There were stalls around the outside and an arena in the centre, with classic and vintage vehicles to one side. The club gazebo was set up next to the Jaguar clubs' and as they are both the same looked pretty good, except the Jaguar gazebo had a floor with theirs and windows in the side. We did not have our flags or bunting but the cars looked good all lined up.

There was a selection of steam engines, some with a top speed of 20 MPH, military vehicles and some old fire engines. The girls wanted to go for a ride on a little row of boats that were pulled by a Quad. Lorri jumped into the driver’s seat, but lucky enough the engine was not running at the time. This is the first year that this show has been held at Romilly Park, but you can tell it could be one of our favourites.

In the arena there was a fair bit going on with a girl band marching and playing their instruments, a display of marshal arts, the steam engines, the military trucks and a selection of classic cars. Most of the people walking round the show viewed the cars with a lot of interest and enthusiasm and that is always good to see. Next year if this show is on again we will have to talk other members into coming, but I think that the weather may have put some of them off this year. Maybe next year there will be a bit more auto jumble - you never know.
