MG Show and Spares Day, Stoneleigh

21st February 2010

Tony, Bob, Carl with Louis driving, set off from Abergavenny at 9.30 en route for Stoneleigh for the annual MG spares day and a great day was had by all. We stopped roughly half way for a toilet break and a much needed smoke. We reminisced most of the way there about our last trip to Le Mans and with tears still running down our faces we talked of our forthcoming escapade to Monte Carlo, and what was wanted from the trip. I think the highlight for all of us will be the Millau Bridge on the homeward journey, time will tell.

At Stoneleigh there were the usual stalls and sellers and there were bargains to be had, but you had to look hard for them, I got the door trim I wanted and ended up buying some braided fuel line which will no doubt look stunning under my bonnet. There was an MG on show, which was also for sale, that none of us had ever heard of before, and I'm sorry to say, still eludes me, with a price tag of £199,999. That's right - £1 change out of Two Hundred Grand. (It was a 1936 MG Airline PB Coupe, check it out on YouTube - Roger)

At 4.45 we started our journey home, what was said I can't say, as once strapped into my seat I was like the proverbial baby - asleep before we left Stoneleigh Park. I woke with a start as we pulled up in a service station for a stretch, it was then decided where we would stop for a drink and the Old Anchor at Ross, (a favourite of ours) was chosen as the pub of choice. Forty minutes later we were sitting in the warm and friendly atmosphere of the Anchor where we had a couple of pints and some food before making the final leg of the journey home.
