Tonyrefail Autojumble

7th March 2010

On a cold and frosty morning three vehicles, two classic and one van, set off from the Crown Pontllanfraith for Tonyrefail. Tony in the van led, followed by myself then Darren. The sunshine deceived me, as it was freezing in the Herald with the roof down. The journey was uneventful with no mishaps or wrong directions.

Once at the auto jumble we separated to look around for those illusive bargains amongst the 20 or so stalls, to meet up later for a hot cuppa. Sylvia was the first to spot a bargain (so she thought) in a wooden rocking horse minus its tail, closely followed by me with a fifty pence tool rack. We were soon joined by Brian (Pop), Derek & Chris who after a quick chat decided to meet up again later at Bryn Bach for a run up to the Brecon Visitor Centre. On our way to Tony’s for a coffee, change of vehicle to his Clio and to pick up Jane, thoughts of breaking down on our way to Brecon again came flooding in. Getting back into our vehicles Sylvia had a change of heart and decided to travel in the comfort and warmth of the Granada. On the way I heard over the CB “Brian, have a look under my car and see if there is anything hanging down, I can hear a knocking sound” A look in the mirror showed nothing dragging on the road and upon checking later could not find where the sound was coming from.

At Bryn Bach we picked up Derek & Chris and set off first for a coffee and a meal at the Visitor Centre only to find that we had just missed the meal times so settled for a cuppa and scone with cream & jam then continued our run to the Promenade for a final chat and to arrange the meeting time of 0930hrs at Cwmcarn Forest Drive on Saturday 13th Mar for the Daffodil Walk of one mile followed by a bite to eat and run, before heading off home. This time Sylvia rejoined me in the Herald for the homeward journey. On our way home Daren pointed out that the sound he had was now gone and that Sylvia may caused the problem with the extra weight in the Granada. A good day out and run with a reasonably good auto jumble, well worth another visit.
